To inherit and carry forward the May Fourth Spirit, inspire young students to bravely shoulder the heavy responsibilities of the times, and stand up with courage and strive to be pioneers in the new journey of the "15th Five-Year Plan," on May 22, Dalian Maple Leaf Vocational and Technical College grandly held the 2026 May Fourth Commendation Conference and Role Model Power Award Ceremony at the Qidingshan Campus lecture hall. Advanced collectives and outstanding students of 2025 were centrally commended, using the light of role models to illuminate the direction of youth, and using the power of striving to write the answer sheet of the times. Hello everyone!
Today, we gather together to pay tribute to the century-old glory in the name of youth, and to praise the May Fourth Spirit with the posture of struggle. Here, on behalf of the school leadership team, I extend the warmest congratulations to the advanced collectives and outstanding individuals who have been commended! I extend the most sincere holiday greetings to all young teachers and students of the school! And to all educators who are deeply cultivating the front line of education and escorting the growth of youth, I extend the highest respect!
A hundred years ago, the thunder of the May Fourth Movement broke through the gloom. A group of young people held high the banners of "democracy" and "science," fulfilling their mission with passion and practicing their original aspiration with action, igniting the torch of national awakening. A hundred years have passed, and the spirit endures. The May Fourth Spirit has never been a dusty historical symbol, but a spiritual gene flowing in the blood, a sentiment and responsibility of "family and country under heaven," an innovative sharpness of "daring to be the first," a practical character of "down-to-earth," and even more so, a spiritual coordinate for the youth of the new era to take root in the times and live up to their prime years.
Looking back at the fertile soil of Maple Leaf, the pulse of youth has always resonated with the times, and the footprints of struggle have always advanced together with the school. In the past year, our young students have taken ideals as sails, skills as oars, and struggle as pens, writing a splendid chapter worthy of the times and youth. Your beliefs are like torches, with red hearts toward the Party, firmly holding the belief of "listening to the Party and following the Party," cultivating deep family-country sentiments in ideological and political study and thematic practice, and keeping the direction of youth always unwavering. You are diligent in skills and fruitful in results, deeply cultivating professional practical training, honing solid capabilities, and using strength to interpret the contemporary ethos of "glory in labor, preciousness in skills, and greatness in creation." You bravely shoulder your mission, integrating knowledge and action, conveying warmth and demonstrating responsibility in volunteer service and community co-construction, allowing youth to bloom with brilliance in dedication. Students, the tide of the times rolls on mightily, and vocational education has a bright future with great potential. Currently, we are in a critical period of national rejuvenation, and also in a crucial stage of the college's deepening of industry-education integration and promotion of high-quality development. The new era has endowed youth with new missions, and the new journey calls for new actions from youth. As Maple Leaf youth in the new era, you are born in a prosperous age and shoulder heavy responsibilities. Taking this opportunity, I would like to put forward four earnest hopes for all young students of the college:
First, take faith as the foundation, set great ambitions, and cultivate great virtues, to be new-era youth with high aspirations. The ideals and beliefs of youth concern the future of the country and the hope of the nation. With faith in the heart, there is strength underfoot. I hope you will firm up your ideals and beliefs, integrate your personal ideals into the magnificent journey of national development, national rejuvenation, and college construction, abandon the "Buddhist-style" mentality, reject the "lying flat" inertia, embrace the "great matters of the country," cultivate deep family-country sentiments, and always be firm believers and loyal practitioners of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, allowing youth to firmly set its course in adhering to the original aspiration.
Second, take practical work as the essence, strengthen capabilities, and refine skills, to be new-era craftsmen with down-to-earth diligence. The core of vocational education is skills, and the value of youth lies in practical work. For more than twenty years, Maple Leaf College has deeply cultivated vocational education, always taking industry-education integration education as the core, building an integrated education mechanism of "Party, league, student, ideological and political education, employment, and entrepreneurship," and building a broad platform for you to hone capabilities and display talents. I hope you will cherish your youthful time, concentrate on studying your profession, and deeply cultivate practical training classrooms. Treat every practical operation as an opportunity to temper the craftsmanship spirit, and treat every challenge as a ladder to improve yourself. Keep up with the trends of the technological revolution and industrial transformation, consolidate your professional foundation, enhance innovation capabilities, and hone solid skills. Third, take innovation as the soul, dare to break through, and be good at pioneering, to be new-era pioneers who dare to be the first. Innovation is the primary driving force for development and the most distinctive characteristic of youth. The May Fourth Movement of a hundred years ago was essentially a movement of ideological emancipation and innovative breakthrough. I hope you will inherit the innovative spirit of the May Fourth Movement, break fixed thinking patterns, break through cognitive limitations, maintain a curiosity to explore the unknown and an enterprising spirit to dare to try, actively engage in innovation and entrepreneurship practice, proactively dock with emerging industries such as the low-altitude economy, new energy, and intelligent manufacturing, use what you have learned to solve difficult problems, and use innovation to promote development. Demonstrate youthful wisdom in technological breakthroughs and achievement transformation, and use the power of innovation to illuminate the journey of youth.
Fourth, take virtue as the foundation, uphold the right path, and promote new trends, to be new-era youth with noble character. Without virtue, a person cannot stand; without virtue, a country cannot prosper. Youth in the new era must not only hone solid skills but also cultivate moral character. I hope you will practice the core values of socialism, distinguish right from wrong, cultivate noble sentiments, abide by moral standards, strictly observe discipline and rules, learn to be grateful, understand inclusiveness, bravely take on responsibilities, and be willing to contribute. Work together in collective life, be sincere and friendly in interpersonal communication, and transmit positive energy in social life. Lead civilized trends with noble character, and be new-era youth with warmth, sentiments, and responsibility.
