In the cultural-tourism sector, some focus on frontline reception and guiding, while others delve deep into event and conference planning - crafting every journey with care and conveying the warmth of cultural-tourism service.
From a student cadre on campus to a frontline tour guide at China International Travel Service; from leading tour groups to serving as Itinerary Director overseeing the planning of large enterprise conferences and events, Liu Peng has advanced step by step, forging his own path of growth in the cultural-tourism industry.
▸▸Part 1: Diverse Student Experiences - Building a Solid Foundation for Growth
During his time at college, Liu Peng held multiple roles: he served successively as secretary of the class Communist Youth League branch, life committee member, psychological committee member, and organization committee member; deputy director of the Organization Department of the department's Youth League committee; and president of the college's Art and Design Association - continuously honing his organizational coordination and communication skills through various student affairs. In his academic studies, he worked diligently and excelled, achieving outstanding professional results. He won the National Encouragement Scholarship, obtained a national-level tour-guide qualification certificate, earned second prize in the Dalian Culture and Tourism Competition, and was named a Liaoning Provincial Outstanding Graduate, transforming theoretical knowledge into professional confidence.
His rich experience in student work also sowed the seeds for his later career in event planning and conference reception. "Student work is actually similar to conference planning - both require attention to detail, coordination across multiple parties, and control of pace," he said. This extensive training laid a solid foundation for his subsequent roles in itinerary planning and high-level interpretation.
▸▸Part 2: From Tour Guide to Itinerary Director - Continuous Advancement through Practice

From December 2023 to September 2025, Liu Peng interned in the tour-guide department of China International Travel Service (Dalian) International Travel Co., Ltd., leading tour groups independently on multiple occasions. Along the way, his patient service and meticulous explanations earned high praise from many travelers, and he refined his reception and emergency-response capabilities through hands-on tour leading.
After this internship experience, he joined Shanghai Travel Service as Itinerary Director, focusing on the planning of large enterprise conferences and events.
As a member of the college's conference reception team, he took part in the support work for the 11th Plenary Session of the 12th Central Standing Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association (CNDCA) in 2025, serving as an on-site interpreter. A high-level conference means high standards and strict requirements - every piece of commentary, every route, and every reception detail was repeatedly polished.
"A tour guide tells the scenery to travelers; conference interpretation is about completing support tasks rigorously and meticulously, leaving no room for the slightest oversight."
Since entering the profession, his footprints have spread across Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Yunnan, Hunan, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Guizhou, and many other places. From leading tours on the ground to planning schemes and implementing them end-to-end, his role has changed, but his rigor and passion for cultural-tourism service have remained constant. In the future, he will continue to deepen his expertise in corporate conference affairs and cultural-tourism planning, steadily accumulating experience in executing large-scale events.
▸▸Part 3: Three Messages for His Junior Fellow Students
1. Don't limit your imagination - the directions your major can lead you are broader than you think. Tourism Management is not only about being a tour guide; conference planning, event coordination, and reception support are all tracks where you can shine.
2. Value every practical opportunity, and do the small things meticulously. Whether it is student work, competition preparation, or a short-term internship, the coordination and communication skills accumulated through each experience will become your core competitiveness in the future.
3. Keep your passion and keep accumulating. Walk more, see more, and go to the field more often - the mountains, rivers, and real-world sites beyond the textbooks are the best classroom for cultural-tourism professionals.
